THE VICEROY, 65-67 CHURCH STREET, BURHAM, Nr ROCHESTER This small restaurant is situated in the back of The Toastmaster Arms public house in what was once clearly a rear bar. At first I thought it was simply the restaurant area of the pub serving curries, but it isn't - it's a fully functioning separate Indian restaurant sharing the premises. It is fairly small, seating 32 diners, and offers a fairly standard high street curryhouse menu. It was a last minute decision to try it (we hadn't been looking for it), and I was not expecting too much. However, I'm pleased to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The Tandoori Chicken was well marinated and flavoursome, the Chicken Tikka Pathia nicely hot and spicy, and the Vegetable Dhansak (main) was also well spiced with a hot peppery flavour. The prices were very reasonable and the portions generous, and as well as sit-down diners there was a steady flow of take-away orders. We didn't go looking for this restaurant, but I'm glad we found it and tried it out as it provided a good standard formula curry. I'd would certainly have no hesitation in going again if in the area.
