THALI, 6a CLIFF ROAD NB This take-away is now closed, but the premises remain, so in case it re-opens under another name (given the last name change) I retain the report. Malcolm Wilkins - August 2008 Previous Report Opened in the summer of 2006, this is Newquay’s latest Indian restaurant. The site used to house a take-away curry and kebab outlet, imaginatively called Curry n Kebabs, but whether this is under the same ownership was difficult to establish. One waiter said it wasn’t, while another vaguely said it was linked to Indian restaurants in Helston, Camborne and St. Ives (Raj Poot). As I believe the former curry and kebab house was linked to the Raj Poot in St Ives it could be, but who knows (why are Indian waiters/managers always so vague or reticent about such things?) It is a small restaurant, seating only about 20, with a fairly standard menu plus two or three less common names. One of the names I hadn’t come across before was Roshnuni Chicken Chilli, so I had that. I’m pleased to say that it was very good. It comprised chicken tikka pieces in a dark, garlic-based sauce and cooked with chillis, and presented a robust and pleasantly tongue-tingling flavour. The Tandoori Chicken was also above average, being well marinated, darkly coloured and strongly flavoured. All other dishes (Aloo Gobi, Niramish etc.) were good standard stuff. With limited seating, and still in season, it was kept busy, and there seemed a steady stream of people ordering or collecting take-away meals, which is a good sign. The service was efficient and friendly and the prices reasonable. All in all a good addition to the Newquay curry scene. For those on a camping, caravanning or touring holiday, it is also worth noting that it specifically advertises a delivery service to camping and caravan sites as well as normal home deliveries.
