TASTE OF BENGAL, ASHFORD ROAD

This restaurant has been established round about 1990, originally called Taste of India but refurbishing and changing to its present name in the late nineties. I was told it was still under the same management, but couldn’t discover the reason for the name change.

A small reception/seating area at the front makes it difficult to see into the main restaurant to get an idea of what it’s like before entering. However, once inside it is a fairly average restaurant seating about 50 in fairly comfortable, although not spacious surroundings in two rooms. An average menu, although it has a higher than average number of spelling mistakes (for example, Garlick Chicken, Jalfrajee, Lamb Komra, Chicken Pataiya, Cauliflower Bhaje, Sag, Parner and Aloo Govi are just some examples!)

Like the restaurant and menu, the food was very average stuff - all just about OK but certainly nothing to write home about. Chicken Tikka Pataiya (sic), Tarka Dal, Mixed Vegetable Bhaje (sic) etc. were all similarly lifeless despite having an undistinguishable 'spicy' tang to them - a bit like supermarket or mass produced curries.

The service was friendly enough and food served efficiently. Portions and prices about average.

The word ‘average’ in everything just about sums it up - an unremarkable formula curry in an average type Indian restaurant.
