TANDOORI PARLOUR. 175 HIGH STREET, RAINHAM The most recent of Rainham's Indian restaurants, opening in approximately early 2003. A small dining catering for 22 diners, although they tell me that a further 32 can be accommodated in an upstairs room. The menu has all the favourites and a few unusual ones amongst their specials (for example, Chicken Khybery, Honey Chicken, Murgh Choley Lahori). Unfortunately all the less usual dishes are mild or medium, so I went for a more common Garlic Chilly Chicken Mossala from the specials. It was OK, reasonably hot with green chillis, but nothing special. The Mixed Vegetable Bhaji was similarly ordinary, and the Aloo Gobi Massala was Aloo Gobi in a strange orange sauce that detracted from the flavours of the vegetables. I wasn't very keen on it to be honest. Everything about it was of average high street formula curry. OK, but not good enough to tempt me to return given there are three others within a relatively short distance. Malcolm Wilkins - May 2005 |
