TAJ MAHAL, 6 BADDOW ROAD *

Comfortable seating for about 60 in a roomy restaurant with tables along one side in alcoves for greater intimacy. Standard menu with all the usuals on offer. The also do a business lunch at £5.95 which gives a choice of starters, main dish, rice, sweet and coffee which seems good value. It was fairly crowded at lunch time but how much this business lunch was a factor was difficult to tell.

Food was fairly average high street formula curry. The best were the starters - Onion Bhajias comprised 4 reasonably sized well cooked bhajias with an accompanying salad while the Tandoori Chicken Wings were generous and very tasty. Main dishes of Chicken Dupiaza was quite bland while Chicken Korma was in a very light, creamy sauce containing lots of coconut. Aloo Gobi fairly average, as were the other accompaniments.

Portions and prices about average and all in all a fairly average meal in a comfortable high street type Indian restaurant.

* I note that this is now called Taj Mahal Two and has been refurbished in modern, contemporary style and with a new, extensive menu. Whether the food has changed I cannot say.
