TAJ MAHAL, 35 HIGH STREET Situated in the high street (in higher Buxton rather than town centre) it is a standard high street Indian restaurant. Seats abut 50 in comfortable surroundings. The meal was generally good. Onion Bhaji starters a bit stodgy but the main dishes were of a good standard. Chicken Tikka Mosala (sic) was very tasty and the Pathia was tastily spiced and reasonably hot, although not as hot as the menu suggests (listed as ‘a hot curry’). Vegetable dishes again of a good standard, but Peshwari Nan very disappointing as it was small and very lightweight, oily and with very little filling other than a smear of coconut paste. Good selection of beer for a ordinary high street curry house. They offered Cobra amongst their selection and also a decent draught Boddingtons bitter at an extremely reasonable (for a restaurant) £1.90 a pint. Overall a good, competent high street formula curry, reasonably priced with good portions and a friendly, efficient service. Malcolm Wilkins May 1998
