SHERAZ, 10 HIGH STREET, MINSTER, ISLE OF SHEPPEY This take-away offers kebabs, burgers, chips etc in addition to Indian food. However, although the interior looks like a kebab house the menu - which is very comprehensive - is predominantly Indian. It opened in the autumn of 2002. The one different things about it is that it is Indian (Punjabi) owned with Punjabi cooking rather than Bangladeshi. Although an unprepossessing looking place the food was surprisingly good, if a little oily. The Nappali Chicken (tikka cooked with garlic and ginger in a tomato based sauce) was good and hot with the chillis cooked into it rather than merely mixed in (but ask for it hot - you have the choice). Dall Samba was also tasty with some bite. The menu also offers cabbage bhajee (unusual but authentic), but unfortunately they were out of cabbage so I made do with cauliflower bhajee. This was OK, but a bit oily. Vegetable rice was fine. Prices about average. Portions good, and friendly service behind the counter. A bit out of the way for passing trade on the Isle of Sheppey and will have to rely on local trade, but I would certainly go back if in the area. Malcolm Wilkins - June 2003 |
