RAJPOOT, HALF MOON STREET

At the time of my visit the Rajpoot was the only Indian restaurant in Sherborne. It is situated right opposite the Abbey in Half Moon Street and looked inviting enough although the menu displayed outside is a little garish - big coloured pictures of dishes more akin to plasticised menus of fast food establishments. The interior is roomy and attractively decorated with traditional tapestry and seats about 60.

It was our intention to eat there but on the night my wife was ill so we were unable to go. However, the bar of the Inn where we stayed was a good source of information which I sought whilst my wife took to her bed. Most said it was ‘all right’ but none gave it rave reviews. When pressed the consensus was that the vegetable dishes were generally better than the meat, although the unanimous view as that the onion bhajias were "awful". Most said that better curries were to be had in nearby Yeovil, where there is a plethora of Indian restaurants.

As I did not eat there I cannot vouch for any of this, but if I visit Sherborne again I will have a hard decision to make!
