THE RAJ, 106 WEST STREET

A small, cosy little restaurant seating about 30 in fairly average ‘Indian restaurant’ surroundings. Standard high street curry house menu.

Onion Bhajias to start were nice, although fairly standard but the accompanying sauce was anything but standard being a bright, almost luminous bilious green colour. Despite its looks however, it was quite hot and tasty. Chicken Chat the requisite small pieces of chicken in a tangy sauce and very good. The accompanying salad to the starters let them down a bit as it was only bits of limp and discoloured shredded lettuce which looked as though it had seen better days. Main dishes of Madras and Dhansak both pleasingly hot while the Tandoori Chicken was above average. Vegetable dishes were OK overall - Cauliflower Bhaji good and not over cooked but the Mixed Vegetable Curry had far too much potato and too little of anything else. Other accompaniments (Rice, Chapattis etc) usual high street standard.

Service good, as were the portions, and prices reasonable.
