CURRY SCENE

There are three Indian restaurants in Beverley, plus two take-aways. The longest established used to be Naseeb in Railway Street, just off Wednesday Market, as it was established in 1988, but at the end of 2004 it disappeared as, according to my informants, the owner sold out and it changed hands. It is now called Ali's Spice. It looks OK - pleasantly decorated, Indian pictures on the walls and seats about 45. The menu offers the usuals plus a few different things, but unfortunately they do not display a menu in the window, so if looking when they are closed, there is no indication of what they offer or pricing. This is a pity, as had they done so then I may well have gone there on my visit.

Another restaurant is Khan, situated in Wylies Road at the other end of town and been there for about 8 years I was told. Again, no menu displayed outside, but I did patronise this one as it was nearest to where I was staying (although in retrospect I wish I hadn't - see report!)

In the middle is the Akash, situated upstairs at 63a Toll Gavel. The menu looks fairly standard.

The two take-aways are Spice of India at 9a Wednesday Market, and the Ladygate Tandoori at 8a Saturday Market. Both offer pizzas, kebabs and burgers in addition to Indian food, but the former probably has a more extensive range of Indian foods, and looks newer, smarter and more an Indian take-away than the other (which looks more a general late-night fast food place).
