CURRY SCENE

Southwell is close to Newark and although much smaller than it's better known neighbour it also boasts the same number of Indian restaurants - two restaurants and a take-away.

The take-away (Sanam Kebab House) is really part of one of the restaurants (Mughal Rasoi) which is situated on the first floor above the take-away. Entrance is up some stairways which have seen better days (wallpaper torn in places, scratches and not over clean) but once upstairs it looked OK. (This restaurant used to be called Sanam Balti House and why they have changed names I didn’t discover).

The other restaurant is the Khyber Pass, just up the road on the other side. It looks small from the outside but inside, passing through an bare and empty and slightly off putting small reception and hallway it is a sizeable restaurant.

Unfortunately I couldn’t eat in either but the choice would have been difficult. Both restaurants and menus look fairly standard high street curry house but if custom is any guide, then at about 7.00 on a Friday evening the Mughal Rasoi was empty but the Khyber Pass had some four tables occupied.
