CURRY SCENE For many years the little market town of Malmesbury relied on a take-away - the imaginatively(!) named The Malmesbury Tandoori - situated in the High Street as it’s only source of Indian food. It was always popular, not only as it had the monopoly but the manager was a friendly soul who knew and chatted to all his customers. In the summer of 1998 competition arrived in the form of Rajah, a new Indian restaurant (also doing take-aways) which opened in the town centre right by the main square. It remains to be seen whether it has much adverse affect on the trade of the Malmsbury Tandoori but I think the original will still keep it’s customers. Malcolm Wilkins - January 2000 |
