CURRY SCENE

As far as I could see there were only three Indian restaurants in Jersey - the New Raj in St Saviour’s Road and Tandoori Nights in Cheapside both in St. Helier, and Shapla in Victoria Road, St. Aubin. There is also a restaurant called Mutiara at 37 La Motte Street, St. Helier which offers a combination of Indonesian, Malay and Indian dishes. This latter one looked quite new with a modern, stylish interior.

I was told that there were others in St. Helier - for example one called Shezan in Kensington Place and one called Taj Mahal Central in La Motte Street but I couldn’t find them - they seemed to have disappeared (although I suspect the Taj Mahal Central was where the Mutiara is now sited).

Of course, Jersey is a reasonable sized place I may have missed one or two. If so, I’m sure someone will let me know.

I asked the taxi driver from the airport which was the best Indian restaurant in town and he unhesitatingly said the New Raj so it’s there I went.
