BOMBAY MASALA, 50 NEW ROAD Opened on late 2006. Modern style of light wood floors and light airy surroundings. They tell me that they are unconnected with any other restaurants. A quick meal one evening showed that the food was a competent standard formula curry. Their special of Bombay Chilli Chicken (cooked in green chillies, garlic, ginger, coriander and their own masala sauce) was very pleasant - chillies cooked in to give it some bite, fresh ginger evident and in an interesting orangey-coloured sauce. Aloo Gobi nicely cooked (sizeable individual pieces not overcooked) and Dall Samba also a good standard. Service efficient, prices about average and portions OK. Another good high street curryhouse standard restaurant in town that I would be happy to return to. Having said that, there are now a number of Indian restaurants already in town that serve a good standard formula curry, and while good this is probably not better. Time will tell whether yet another Indian restaurant in town can survive (I hope so - there's a saying that you can't have too much of a good thing!) Malcolm Wilkins - August 2007
